HUNTER, Margaret (nee Gander) – Peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Chateau Gardens, Niagara-on-the Lake in her 89th year.
If you knew Margaret, then by association, you will have heard all about Muskoka. Bala Bay is where as an only child she was adopted by her four big brothers Frank, Laurie, Ralph and Charlie Manchee. Later in turn she became sister-in-law to Charmian, Marg, Jean and Taffy. After an education at St. Catharine’s Collegiate, Alma College and The New York School of Interior Design, Marg worked at Simpson’s in Toronto and later independently, after returning to St. Catharines.
A blind date one New Year’s Eve with a tall, English, former RCAF officer named Robert led to a marriage on May 15th 1954 that lasted over 54 years until Bob’s passing in 2008. Marg’s other lifelong love – cooking, put the likes of crab stuffed mango on the cottage table while others on Bala Bay held mere burgers and hot dogs. The same table supported many arts and craft projects over the decades for Manchee nieces and nephews, her own children Robert Brock (Kate) and Read Parnall (Stephanie Bird), and most recently, grandchildren Allie & Jack to whom she will always be “GranMarg”.
Marg’s recent years have found her in residence at The Heatherwood, St. Catharines Place and Chateau Gardens. Her family greatly appreciates the kindness, care and consideration shown to her by the staff at each of these places.
A graveside service to celebrate Marg’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Victoria Lawn Cemetery (Queenston St.). Those attending the memorial are asked to meet at 12:50 pm at the cemetery gates. If desired, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to BUTLER FUNERAL HOME (33 Duke St., St. Catharines 905-684-2334). Share valued memories, photos and condolences at www.butlerduke.ca
